Lethbridge – Heading into the home stretch of the Canada West regular season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team needs to pick up crucial points in the team's final home games of the regular season and hosts the Mount Royal Cougars and MacEwan Griffins.

The 'Horns will host the Cougars Saturday and the Griffins Sunday, both games kick-off at 12:00pm at the University Community Stadium. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

Entering the final two weeks of the conference schedule, the 'Horns (3-7-0) are in a battle for a post-season berth for the second season in a row. The 'Horns are tied with the Regina Cougars and Winnipeg Wesmen for the final two playoff spots in the Prairie Division.

In their last action, the Pronghorns earned a crucial three points versus the Calgary Dinos, beating them 3-1 in the front half of a home-and-home series. The only other team to take points off the Dinos this season prior to last weekend was the Saskatchewan Huskies, who tied the Dinos 1-1 two weeks ago.

The 'Horns lost the second game in Calgary 2-0 last Sunday.

Nikki Furukawa continued her strong season, scoring twice in the win over the Dinos and leads the 'Horns in scoring with six goals, which is exactly half of the 'Horns season output (12). Kayla Blacquiere has scored twice to sit second on the team.

Rachel Lee saw her first action of the season in the 'Horns net and acquainted herself quite well, stopping seven of the 10 shots she faced.

Mount Royal (2-6-2) enters Saturday's game only one point behind the 'Horns, Cougars and Wesmen in a log jam for playoffs but are winless in their last five matches. Last weekend versus the Griffins, Mount Royal tied the Griffins in Edmonton 1-1 before losing on home field 2-1.

The Cougars have scored the second fewest goals in the Prairie Division with five goals in 10 games and have allowed the second most in the division (18).

Carly Neis has scored three of her team's five goals this season.

MacEwan University (6-2-2) is at the other end of the standings, fighting it out for the top position with the Dinos. The Griffins crept within five points of the Dinos after earning four points last weekend, and face the Dinos on Saturday, but they are only three points ahead of third placed Saskatchewan Huskies.

The Griffins enter this weekend riding a hot streak, unbeaten in six games and have only allowed two goals during that streak.

Suekiana Choucair leads the Griffins offensively with five goals this season.

The 'Horns will wrap up the Canada West regular season next weekend, travelling to the West Coast to face the always tough Trinity Western Spartans and Fraser Valley Cascades.
