'Horns and Cougars battle to scoreless draw

Lethbridge – Heading into the home stretch of the Canada West regular season, and every point valuable, the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Mount Royal battled to a scoreless draw.
 
With major playoff implications on the line, the game opening with a nervous energy and choppy action. Heading into today's games, the 'Horns sit tied with the Regina Cougars and Winnipeg Wesman for the final two playoff spots, while the Mount Royal Cougars are only one point behind the two teams.
 
Statistically, the 'Horns and Cougars were near even in all categories in a scoreless first half at the half. The Cougars had seven shot attempts to the 'Horns six, but both hit the net three times.
 
The 'Horns best chance came late in the opening half, but Kayla Blacquiere's shot from just inside the penalty area.
 
Erin Holt had two shots on goal in the half for the Cougars but their most dangerous chance came off the head of Navroop Virk. Amanda Schafer put a dangerous cross deep into the 'Horns box but Virk's header just sailed over the crossbar.
 
Early in the second half, Lindsay Amatto had a great chance for the 'Horns to break the deadlock. Racing past a Cougar defender, she got a great shot from about 10 yards out but her shot was just high.
 
At the other end of the field, Emily Sands had a good look for the Cougars in the box but she hooked her shot wide.
 
The Cougars kept pressing forward and earned consecutive corner kicks but were unable to capitalize.
 
In injury time, the 'Horns created a wild scramble in the Cougars penalty area but were unable to will the ball across the line and had to settle for the scoreless draw.
 
The 'Horns record moves to 3-7-1, while the Cougars remain one point behind at 2-6-3.
 
The 'Horns will host the MacEwan Griffins to close out the home portion of the Canada West Schedule, kick-off is set for 12:00pm. The Cougars will return to Calgary
