Lethbridge – Thanks to a five-game winning streak the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's soccer team enters the final two games of the conference schedule controlling their own destiny as they fight for a playoff spot in the tough Canada West conference.
The 'Horns will host the second place Calgary Dinos and third place Mount Royal Cougars to wrap up the regular season this week. The 'Horns and Dinos will hit the pitch at the University Community Stadium Thursday night at 6:00pm and then host the Cougars in the season finale Sunday at 4:00pm.
Thursday night will also be LFC Night, with any LFC player wearing their team jacket getting free admission to the game versus the Dinos.
Following an exceptional road weekend last week that saw the 'Horns shutout the CIS top ranked Alberta Golden Bears 1-0 and beat the MacEwan Griffins 2-0, the 'Horns leapfrogged the Saskatchewan Huskies for the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division. The 'Horns are two points ahead of the Huskies and the Huskies will play the same two teams, hosting the Cougars Friday and the Dinos Sunday.
Chris Rushworth continues to lead the 'Horns in goals with six, while Stephan Primeau and Kendell Wiens are right behind him with four goals apiece.
After shutting down the top ranked team in the CIS the 'Horns will now take on another potent attack in the Dinos Thursday night. The Dinos have scored a conference high 42 goals and are led by Dominic Russo who is second in Canada West with 15 goals.
The Dinos have also only allowed 14 goals against and enter the weekend on a two-game winning streak after sweeping the Winnipeg Wesmen last weekend.
Sunday's opponent, the Mount Royal Cougars, enter the last series only two points ahead of the Pronghorns for third place in the division and prior to beating Calgary last Wednesday, were winless in their previous five games. The Cougars and Dinos had to play last Wednesday to make up a game that was postponed from October 8
th due to inclement weather.
Statistically, the Cougars have scored 22 goals for but have allowed the second fewest goals in all of Canada West with 13.
Cody Cook leads the Cougars with six goals but the Cougars have relied on balanced scoring this season with six other players registering two goals this season.
