Box Score
CALGARY- It took a shootout but the Lethbridge Pronghorns returned the win column with a 4-3 win over the Calgary Dinos in the front half of a home-and-home series.

The win lifts the 'Horns record to 1-4-1-1, while the Dinos drop to 0-4-1-2.

In the first game of a home-and-home series between the Dinos and Pronghorns, a scoreless first was not for the lack of chances. Both teams managed good scoring opportunities. The Dinos chances were highlighted by a defensive, open net save on a wrist shot from Calgary defender Kira Makuk. For the Pronghorns, a collection of low shots was stymied by goaltender Kelsey Roberts, who made just her fourth appearance of the season.

The scoring opened up in the second as Pronghorns forward, Mackenzie Gal roofed a chance in tight, giving her team the ice breaker. Heather Berzins responded quickly for the Dinos, as she deflected a pass off of a faceoff from Cheyann Newman, beating Lethbridge goalie Alicia Anderson.

The Dinos then took the lead on a textbook give and go play with Sasha Vafina and Chelsea Court as she sniped the puck short side shelf. Shortly after the go ahead goal, Janae Culp fired a snap shot past Roberts, giving Lethbridge a game tying and power play marker. The score would remain tied two aside heading into the third period.

The third period scoring took place late, as Lethbridge forward Brett Campbell gave her team the lead, with less than three minutes to play. The lead would last a mere 33 seconds, as Vafina picked up a pass from Kate Lumley in full flight, slipped past the Lethbridge defense, and buried the puck, going off the crossbar and in, tying the game and sending it to overtime.

The first overtime period was highlighted by a late power play chance by the Pronghorns, but they were unable to capitalize. Still tied going into the second overtime period, the Dinos took over, hounding possession, but like their counterpart, were unable to convert, sending this marathon to a shootout.

After nine scoreless attempts, Lethbridge forward Sarah Spence cashed in on her second attempt and sealed the victory for the Pronghorns.

The Dinos will travel to Lethbridge tomorrow night, Oct. 29, for a 7PM puck drop at the Nicolas Sheran Arena, as they will complete the home-and-home series.
