Lethbridge – Coming off their first two-win weekend of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team faces a measuring stick weekend, hosting the defending Canada West Champion and U Sports top ranked UBC Thunderbirds.

The 'Horns and Thunderbirds hit the ice at Nicolas Sheran Arena Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday at 1:00pm. Both games will be streamed live at www.canadawest.tv, home of all Canada West webcasts.

In their last action, the 'Horns (2-4-1-1) swept the Calgary Dinos with a 4-3 shootout win and a hard fought 2-1 win.

Second-year forward Mackenzie Gal looks to have added an offensive dimension to her game this season, already setting new career highs in goals (3), assists (2) and points (5) and leads the team through eight games. As a freshman she had a goal and an assist in 28 games.

In the crease, Alicia Anderson has started the last six games and sits second in Canada West in save percentage at 0.946%. She also sports a 2.44 goals-against-average (GAA).

The defending Canada West Champion Thunderbirds (6-1-1-0) enter the weekend as the hottest team in Canada West, winning six in a row, including handing second place Manitoba Bisons their first two losses of the season last weekend.

Offensively, NCAA transfer Cassandra Vilgrain leads Canada West scoring with three goals and nine assists in eight games this season. Teammate Nicole Saxvik sits second in the conference with three goals and seven assists.

Through eight games, the T-Birds have platooned Torry Micklash and Amelia Boughn in time in the crease with both making four appearances. Micklash is undefeated and holds a 1.71 GAA, while Boughn is 3-1.

Last season, despite the Thunderbirds winning the conference title, the 'Horns played the T-Birds tough, winning all four games.

The 'Horns will enjoy their bye week next week before facing the Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series. The second game of the weekend series will be in Lethbridge Saturday night, November 19th.
