'Horns head to provincial capital to take on Pandas

Lethbridge – With the conference schedule hitting the halfway mark this weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team heads out on the road looking to put an end to a winless drought, traveling to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas.
 
The 'Horns and Pandas will hit the ice at Clare Drake Arena Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm. Both games will be streamed live onwww.canadawest.tv.
 
Entering the second to last weekend of the opening semester, the 'Horns (2-7-1-2) are riding a four-game winless streak and were swept last weekend in a home-and-home with the Mount Royal Cougars.
 
A positive note heading into the weekend is that the team has played well on the road so far this season, going 2-1-1 in four road games.
 
Through 12 games this season, the 'Horns rank sixth in goals for with 21 and seventh in goals against, allowing 38 goals against. Both the power play and penalty killing units are ranked seventh as well in Canada West. The PP is operating at 8.2%, while the PK sits at 81.5%.
 
Individually, Mackenzie Gal and Jodi Gentile lead the 'Horns offensively. Each have scored three times this season, while Gal has six points compared to Gentile's five.
 
Entering this weekend, the Pandas sit exactly at .500 with three regulation wins, three regulation losses, three overtime wins and three overtime losses. The Pandas sit in fourth place but are only a single point ahead of the Regina Cougars.
 
Statistically, the Pandas rank fourth in goals against, allowing 23 goals against in 12 games, but have scored the fourth fewest goals with 26 goals for. Both specialty team units are ranked sixth in Canada West (PP – 10.5%, PK – 82.7%)
 
Amy Boucher sits atop the Pandas scoring list with four goals and six assists, while Alex Poznikoff is second with seven points (3G, 4A).
 
Both of the Pandas goaltenders are among the league leaders, Lindsay Post sports a record of 5-1-1 with a 1.77 goals-against-average, while Dayna Owen has a better goals-against-average at 1.77 but her record is 1-3-1.
 
The 'Horns will return to home ice next weekend, hosting the Regina Cougars in their final conference games of 2016.
