Box Score Lethbridge - Coming off a season opening loss, the Lethbridge Pronghorns scored two goals in a four minute span in the first half, which turned out to be all they would need, and beat the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 2-0.

Nikki Furukawa scored both goals and opened the season with a three-goal weekend.

The win improves the 'Horns record to 1-1-0, while the WolfPack drop to 0-2-0.

On cold and wet day, where quality chances and sustained pressure was hard to come by, the 'Horns finished the game with only five shots on goal, while the WolfPack only directed four balls on target.

Kayla Blacquiere had the first quality chance in the 15th minute from a nice three way passing play. Furukawa hit a streaking Nanami Wakayama, who placed a nice ball into Blacquiere but Blacquiere ran out of space and hit the side of the net.

Thompson Rivers had their first shot a short time later but Katie Harding's long shot was easily handled by Paige Gattafoni.

The 'Horns finally broke through in the 41st minute. Furukawa took a pass from Kaelen Gilroy and beat two Thompson Rivers' defenders before placing the ball in the lower left corner.

Before the half was out, Furukawa was back at it. Racing down the left flank, she outpaced the WolfPack defender and slipped the ball past Alyssa Smith as she came off the line.

At the half, both teams has two shots on goal and the WolfPack had the lone corner kick.

Out of the break, the WolfPack pushed forward and created some pressure on the 'Horns but could not find the net.

Next weekend, the 'Horns head out on the road to face the MacEwan Griffins and Mount Royal Cougars. Thompson Rivers will return home to host the Alberta Pandas and UNBC Timberwolves.
