Box Score
Lethbridge – In their first road game of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns surrendered two second half goals to drop a 2-1 decision to the MacEwan Girffins in Edmonton.

With a perfectly-placed free kick from 25-yards out that curled around a wall of defenders into the top right corner in the 84th minute, Suekiana Choucair completed the Griffins comeback after trailing the Pronghorns 1-0 at the half

It will go down as MacEwan's first win of the 2016 Canada West campaign, in their home opener, no less.

Choucair played a major role in Saturday's win as she also scored the game-tying tally off a penalty kick in the 70th minute. Mia Fornelius was pulled down in the right side of the box, setting up Choucair to calmly put a low right shot past Lethbridge keeper Paige Gattafoni.

However, the game was very much in doubt for MacEwan after Lethbridge scored the opening goal in the 15th minute. Pronghorns' star midfielder Nikki Furukawa, who entered the game with all three of the team's tallies on the season, put a high cross through that forced Griffins keeper Emily to dive and deflect it off the crossbar. The ball landed at the feet of Kayla Blacquiere, who guided it into the empty net.

The Griffins had plenty of chances in the first half to net the equalizer, most notably in the 30th minute when Raveena Biln drilled a rocket one-timer that was set to go bar down when Gattafoni deftly deflected it over the net.

Nervous tension fell over the stadium until Choucair's calm PK strike turned the tide in the home side's favour.

The 'Horns finished the game with season high 11 shots on goal but could only manage the one goal. Gattafoni had a busy day in the 'Horns net, making 14 saves in the loss.

The loss drops the 'Horns to 1-2-0 on the season, but tomorrow is a new day for the Pronghorns, traveling to Calgary to face the Mount Royal Cougars. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00am.
