1/4/2017 4:05:00 PM

Lethbridge – The Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team hits the ice for the first time in 2017, facing the Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series beginning Friday night in Lethbridge.

The Pronghorns and Dinos will clash at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 7:00pm. The back half of the home-and-home goes Saturday night at Father David Bauer the next night at 6:00pm. Both games can be viewed live on www.canadawest.tv.

Both teams hope the New Year leads to new results as they each enter the second semester on extending losing streaks. The 'Horns (2-11-1-2) last win came against the Dinos, sweeping the earlier series with a 4-3 shootout win and a 2-1 win. The Dinos have lost 11 straight games and enter the weekend in last place with a 0-12-1-3. The Dinos only win during the first half was an overtime win over the Mount Royal Cougars.

Statistically very similar, the 'Horns (24) and the Dinos (23) are the two lowest scoring teams in Canada West. The 'Horns have allowed 55 goals against, while the Dinos have allowed a conference high 57 goals against.

Not much separates the two teams on specialty teams as well. The 'Horns are ranked seventh in both power play and penalty killing percentages, while the Dinos are eighth in both departments.

Fifth-year forward Jenae Culp leads the 'Horns in scoring with one goal and six assists, while Mackenzie Gal and Tricia Van Vaerenbergh are tied for second with three goals and three assists each.

In the crease, Alicia Anderson has seen the bulk of the action and leads the conference in saves with 548 through 13 games appearances. She also holds a 0.923 save percentage and a 3.30 goals-against-average.

For the Dinos, Sasha Vafina leads the way with six goals and five assists, while both Chelsea Court and Heather Berzins have six points each.

In the crease, the Dinos have used three goaltenders this season but Kelsey Roberts has seen the most action with 11 appearances and sports a 3.30 goals-against-average and a 0.895 save percentage.

Next weekend the 'Horns will once again face off in a home-and-home series this time versus the Mount Royal Cougars.
