Vancouver, BC – Kathleen Cahoon's first of the season was all the UBC Thunderbirds (6-2-0-0) needed in yet another tightly fought defensive battle for a 1-0 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns (1-5-2-0).
"We had another solid effort today but we just came up short around their net a few times," said head coach Michelle Janus. "The effort on special teams was also good today."
Amelia Boughn wasn't busy early Saturday afternoon but held down the fort when the 'Horns made a late push and finished with 24 saves for her second shutout of the season.
For the second straight game the 'Birds opened scoring, this time at the 9:07 mark when Cahoon pounced on a loose puck low in the slot for her first of the season from Logan Boyd and Ireland Perrott.
The T-Birds would not be able to get anything further past Alicia Anderson who was terrific once again in net for the Pronghorns finishing with 30 saves while earning the game's third star.
UBC got into penalty trouble in the second period and again late in the third but the 'Birds penalty kill was solid going a perfect 7-for-7. The Thunderbirds weren't able to score on their own man advantage finishing the game 0-for-6.
All of Canada West hockey will be off next weekend. The Pronghorns will host the Alberta Pandas when the conference returns to action in two weeks.
