Important home games for Pronghorns versus Cougars

Lethbridge – Back on home ice, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team hosts the Regina Cougars for a pair of games in the second last weekend of conference action before the semester break.
 
The Pronghorns and Cougars hit the ice at Nicholas Sheran Arena Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm. Both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
 
This weekend marks the first meeting of the season between the Pronghorns and Cougars, but a season ago the Cougars won the season series, taking three of four games with one of those wins coming in overtime.
 
A look at the teams
 
The Pronghorns (4-6-1-1) just finished a stretch of four games versus nationally ranked opponents and went 1-1-2. Two weeks ago, the Pronghorns earned four points at home versus the defending U SPORTS Champion Alberta Pandas.
 
Last weekend on the road, the Pronghorns lost two close games in Winnipeg versus the fourth ranked Manitoba Bisons, losing 1-0 in a shootout and 2-1.
 
Statistically, the Pronghorns have allowed the second fewest goals against with 17, but have also scored the second fewest goals for with 14.
 
The Cougars (5-6-1-0) enter the weekend on four-game losing streak and have been shutout in three of those four contests. Last weekend the Cougars lost back-to-back 1-0 games to the Caglary Dinos.
 
Entering this weekend, the Cougars have also allowed the second most goals in Canada West with 27 against in 12 games. Offensively, the Cougars sit in the middle of the pack with 22 goals scored but have only scored one goa in their last four games.
 
Players to watch
 
Alicia Anderson continues her exceptional third season with the Pronghorns, playing every minute thus far in the Pronghorns net. She ranks first in Canada West in saves with 447 and second in save percentage at 0.962%. She also holds a 1.43 goals against-average.
 
Offensively, Tricia Van Vaerenbergh scored her third goal of the season last weekend to tie freshman Alli Borrow for the team lead in that category. Van Vaerenbergh leads the team with five points.
 
Bailey Braden and Jaycee Magwood lead the Cougars attack with four goals and three assists each, while goaltender Jane Kish has played in eight of 12 games thus far and holds a 1.60 goal against-average and a 0.940 save percentage.

The Pronghorns will conclude the first semester of the conference schedule next weekend with a home-and-home series with the Calgary Dinos, starting in Calgary Friday night.
