Lethbridge – After opening the 2017 Canada West season last weekend on the road, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team returns home for their home opening weekend, welcoming two B.C. schools to town, hosting the Fraser Valley Cascades and Trinity Western Spartans.

The 'Horns will face the Cascades on Saturday and the Spartans on Sunday, kick-off for both games is slated for noon and both games will be webcast on www.canadawest.tv.

Last weekend on the road, the Horns (0-1-1) opened the new campaign with a 2-1 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars, before earning an important and hard fought point in a 0-0 tie with the Alberta Pandas in Edmonton.

2016 leading scorer Nikki Furukawa scored the 'Horns lone goal on the weekend but fifth-year Kayla Blacquiere was also an offensive threat, leading the Pronghorns in shot attempts on the weekend with six. Furukawa scored six goals last season and her goal last weekend was her 10th as a Pronghorn.

After missing all of last season due to injury, Micaela Stone returned to the Pronghorn net and stopped 12 of the 14 shots she faced.

The Cascades (0-1-1) also opened the season with a loss and a tie, playing the Victoria Vikes to a 2-2 draw, followed by a 3-1 loss to the defending Canada West Champion UBC Thunderbirds. Amanda Carruthers scored both goals versus the Vikes to lead the Cascades during the opening weekend.

A perennial Canada West power, the Trinity Western Spartans split their opening weekend of the season at home, losing 3-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds before beating the Vikes 2-1. Rachel Hutchinson and Jenaya Robertson were the Spartans goal scorers.

The Pronghorns will head out on the road next weekend, traveling to Saskatchewan to face the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars.
