Lethbridge – The Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team will hit the midpoint of the 2017 Canada West season this weekend and will look to solidify their footing on a playoff spot on home field this weekend, hosting the Winnipeg Wesmen and Manitoba Bisons.

The Pronghorns will take on the Wesman Saturday and the Bisons on Sunday. Kick-off for both matches is slated for 12:00m and both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

"This is a huge weekend for us," said head Fred Trinh. "Both teams are well coached and always have their teams prepared."

"We always enjoy playing both teams because our teams are similar and very competitive."

Entering this weekend, the Pronghorns (2-3-1) sit fifth in the Prairie Division, three points ahead of both of this weekend's opponents.

Last weekend on the road, the Pronghorns earned a split, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Huskies in Saskatoon before beating the Regina Cougars by the same 2-1 score on Sunday.

Through six games this season, the Pronghorns have scored nine times and allowed seven goals against.

The trio of Lindsay Amatto, Kayla Blacquiere and Nikki Furukawa continue to lead the Pronghorns offensively this season. Amatto's game winning goal last Sunday was her team leading third goal of the season, while Blacquiere and Furukawa both have two goals and one assist on the season.

Saturday's opponent, the Winnipeg Wesmen (1-4-1) earned their first win of the season last weekend, beating the Mount Royal Cougars 4-0 in Winnipeg on Saturday. The next day the Wesmen lost to the Alberta Pandas 4-0.

Maeghan Lindsay and Shae-Lynn Dodds have accounted for five of their team's seven goals this season. Lindsay leads the team with three, while Dodds has two goals to go along with one assist.

On Sunday, the Pronghorns take on the Bisons (1-4-1), who are the hosts of the 2017 U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championships this November.

After opening the season with a tie and a win, the Bisons enter this weekend's action riding a four game losing streak. Last weekend, the Bisons dropped 1-0 and 3-0 decisions to Alberta Pandas and Mount Royal Cougars.

With five goals scored this season, the Bisons are one of the lowest scoring teams in Prairie Division and have allowed the second most goals against with 13.

Florin Wagner and Hailey Lavarias have accounted for all five goals for the Bisons with Wagner leading the team with three and Lavarias has scored the other two.

The Pronghorns will play in a home-and-home series next weekend with the Calgary Dinos. The weekend set begins in Calgary on Saturday before returning to Lethbridge next Sunday.
