Lethbridge – Looking to get back in the win column, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women's hockey team faces southern Alberta rival the Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series.
The Pronghorns host the opening game the weekend set, Friday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena. Puck drops at 7:00pm. The back half of the home-and-home goes Saturday night in Calgary at Flames Community Arena.
During the first semester the Pronghorns and Cougars split a weekend series with both teams winning on the road. The Pronghorns beat the Cougars 4-1 before dropping a 3-0 decision in Lethbridge.
A Look at the Teams
The Pronghorns (3-11-2-2) enter the weekend riding a four game losing streak and find themselves five points out of playoff spot.
Throughout the season the Pronghorns Achilles Heel has been offensive production. With 19 goals for in 18 games, the Pronghorns have scored the second fewest goals in Canada West and have been shut out seven times this season.
Despite the team's scoring woes, the Pronghorns have been in majority of their games this season, suffering eight – one goal losses and have allowed the fourth fewest goals against (30) in Canada West.
Entering the weekend, the Cougars (4-11-3-0) are on a roll, winning their last three games, including a sweep of the Regina Cougars last weekend at home. The Cougars didn't allow a goal in either game and have only allowed one goal against in their last four games.
While to Cougars are on a hot streak right now, they have allowed the most goals against in Canada West, allowing 36 goals against in 18 games.
Key Players
Goaltender Alicia Anderson remains among the league leaders in all goaltending categories. She has made the most saves in the conference with 586 and has played the most minutes of any Canada West goaltender. She also sits second in save percentage (0.956%) and sixth in goals-against average (1.55). She has appeared in 17 of 18 Canada West games this season.
Tricia Van Vaerenbergh and Katelyn Breitkreuz lead the Pronghorns in points with seven a piece. Van Vaerenbergh leads the team in goals with seven and Breitkreuz leads with six assists.
For the Cougars, Rachel Piitz leads the team with two goals and six assists, while first-year forward Tatum Amy sits second with two goals and four assists.
In the crease, Zoe DeBeauville has carried the bulk of the load, seeing action in 16 of 18 Canada West games and holds a 2.05 goals-against average and a 0.912 save percentage.
