‘Horns face top ranked Pandas on the road

LETHBRIDGE – With only three weeks remaining the regular season and their playoff hopes diminishing, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team faces another tough challenge this weekend, traveling to Edmonton to face the U SPORTS top ranked Alberta Pandas.
 
The Pronghorns and Pandas face-off Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv.
 
Earlier this season in Lethbridge, the Pronghorns and Pandas split a weekend set with the Pronghorns winning the first night 3-1, before dropping the second game 2-1.
 
A Look at the Teams:
 
With only six games remaining the in the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns (3-14-2-3) sit seven points behind the Regina Cougars for the final playoff spot in Canada West but will need to put an end to an eight game losing streak.
 
Despite playing the defending Canada West Champion UBC Thunderbirds tough last weekend, they dropped two more one goal games, losing 3-2 in a shootout and 2-1 in regulation time. The losses were the Pronghorns 11th and 12th one goal losses of the season.
 
The Pronghorns have scored the second fewest goals in Canada West this season, tallying only 25 goals in 22 games. They have also allowed 40 goals against this season.
 
The Pandas (11-4-4-3) enter the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the conference, riding a five game winning streak. During the winning streak, the Pandas have not allowed a goal against in four straight games, including shutting out Regina both games last weekend, 3-0 and 5-0.
 
Thus far, the Pandas have scored the most goals in the conference with 56, while allowing the third fewest goals against (35).
 
Key Players:
 
A pair of rookies led the Pronghorns in goals this season, with Alli Borrow and Kyra Greig both registering five goals. Borrow is tied for the team lead in points with eight with Katelyn Breitkreuz.
 
Alicia Anderson continues her strong play in the Pronghorn crease, leading the conference in saves with 679 in 20 appearances. She sits eighth in goals-against average (1.66) and fourth in save percentage (0.951)
 
For the Pandas, a pair of forwards lead Canada West in scoring. Autumn MacDougal leads all scorers with 24 points (11g 13a), while Alexandra Poznikoff sits second with eight goals and 11 assists.
 
The duo of Kirsten Chamberlin and Dayna Owen has been on quite a run in the Pandas net the last two weeks, each earning a pair of shutouts as they ran the team's shutout streak to 291:38. The Pandas last allowed a goal in the opening period of a game against the Manitoba Bisons on January 6th.
 
On the season, Chamberlin holds a 1.29 goals-against average and a 0.929 save percentage, while Owen has a 1.53 goals-against average and a 0.914 save percentage.
