LETHBRIDGE – Sitting three points out of the final playoff spot with four games to play, the Pronghorn women's soccer team hosts their final two home games this weekend, welcoming the MacEwan Griffins and UNBC Timberwolves.
The Pronghorns will face the Griffins Saturday afternoon and the Timberwolves Sunday afternoon. Kick-off for both games is slated for 12:00 PM at the University Community Stadium. Both games will also be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
In their last action, the Pronghorns (1-8-1) were swept by the Prairie Division Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series, dropping games by scores of 1-0 and 2-0.
Through 10 games this season, offensive production has been the Pronghorns Achilles heel, scoring on four times, while allowing 19 goals against.
Lindsay Amatto leads the Pronghorns with two goals. Raeleen Vanden dungen and Hailey Waterhouse has scored the other two goals.
Freshman goaltender Hanna Quinn has made six appearances this season and sits third in Canada West save percentage at 0.862%.
Saturday's opponent, the MacEwan Griffins (7-2-1) have clinched a playoff spot in the Pacific Division and enter the weekend on a two game winning streak.
Statistically, the Griffins have scored 19 goals and have allowed the second fewest goals in the Pacific Division with 10.
Individually, the Griffins are led by Jamie Erickson with four goals, but they also have three players who have scored three times this season, Brittany Costa, Raeghan McCarthy and Sarah Riddle.
The UNBC Timberwolves (1-6-3) are at the bottom of the Pacific Division and also fighting for their playoff lives. Currently two points back of the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division.
Entering the weekend, the Timberwolves have are tied for the most goals against in Canada West, allowing 27 goals against in 10 games. UNBC has scored 19 goals for.
Paige Payne leads the Timberwolves in scoring with eight goals in 10 games, which places her atop the goal scoring list in Canada West.
