LETHBRIDGE – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team will look to bounce back after a tough weekend at home last week, as they host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies this weekend at the Nicholas Sheran Arena.
The Pronghorns and Huskies will hit the ice Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m., both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
After opening the season with a road split, the Pronghorns (1-3-0-0) suffered back-to-back losses at the hands of the Regina Cougars. In the weekend opener, the Pronghorns outshot the Cougars 45-25 but were shutout 2-0. The next game the Pronghorns fell 4-3.
Through four games, the Pronghorns have scored six times, while allowing nine goals against. On specialty teams, the 'Horns are ranked fourth in penalty killing (81.3%) and fifth in power play (15%).
Fourth-year forward Tricia Van Vaerenbergh is off to a hot start for the Pronghorns, leading the team with three goals and an assist in four games, good enough for a tie for second in Canada West scoring.
The Huskies (2-1-1-0) come to Lethbridge on the heels of a weekend sweep of the Calgary Dinos in Calgary, winning both games 2-1, with Saturday's game needed double overtime.
Statistically, the Huskies have scored six times in four games, but have only allowed four goals against. Through two weekends of conference play, the Huskies have yet to allow a power play goal against in 12 times shorthanded. The Huskies power play sits third in Canada West (16.7%).
Leah Bohlken and Bailee Bourassa are tied for the Huskies scoring lead with four points. Bohlken has three goals and an assist, while Bourassa leads the Huskies with three assists.
