A season ago, the Pronghorns finished with 3-18-2-5 record and missed qualifying for the post season, but there record is a bit deceiving as the Pronghorn had 16 one goal losses and were in every game.
The Pronghorns return 18 players from last season including top point producers Tricia Van Vaerenberg, Alli Borrow, Katelyn Breitkreuz and Kyra Greig.
Van Vaerenberg led the team with seven goals and 11 points, while Borrow and Greig had solid rookie season. Borrow finished second among Canada West freshman scorers with nine points and Greig finished third on the Pronghorns in goals with five.
Stalwart goaltender Alicia Anderson returns for her fourth season with the Pronghorns. Anderson finished second in Canada West in total saves with 818 in 24 games. She also finished third in save percentage at 0.949% and a 1.75 goals-against average.
The Thunderbirds finished third in Canada West last season with a 14-5-5-4 record but lost in the Canada West semi-final to the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Only a year removed from a Canada West Championship, the T-Birds open the season with an experienced group than includes there top three scorers from last season. Mathea Fisher led the T-Birds with 17 points, while Hannah Clayton-Carroll finished tied for top spot in Canada West goal scoring with 12.
The goaltending tandem of Tory Micklash and Amelia Boughn return again this season. Micklash compiled a 12-2-1 record a year ago and Boughn won seven games herself.
While the T-Birds swept the season series last year with the Pronghorns all four games were decided by one goal, including one game that needed a shootout to decide a winner.
