Pronghorns face defending champs in Winnipeg

LETHBRIDGE – Looking to build off their first weekend sweep of the season two weeks ago, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team heads east to Winnipeg to face the defending U SPORTS Champion Manitoba Bisons.
 
The Pronghorns and Bisons will face-off Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., both Central Time. Both games will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.
 
A look at the teams
 
Coming off a conference wide bye week, the Pronghorns (3-4-0-1) enter the weekend on a two game winning streak after sweeping the Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home series two weeks ago.
 
Through four weeks of the conference schedule, the Pronghorns are even in the goal differential department, scoring and allowing 12 goals in eight games.
 
Coming off the program's first National Championship, the Bisons (5-2-1-0) sit tied for top spot in Canada West with the Alberta Pandas and enter the weekend on a four game winning streak.
 
Statistically, the Bisons have scored the most goals in the conference thus far with 20 goals in eight games, while allowing the fourth fewest goals against, allowing only 11 against.
 
Players to watch
 
Fourth-year forward Tricia Van Vaerenbergh has had a great start to her season. She is tied for the conference lead in goals with five and sits tied for fourth in Canada West scoring with seven points.
 
In the crease, Alicia Anderson continues to be one of the top goaltenders in the conference. Coming off back-to-back shutouts of the Calgary Dinos, Anderson leads Canada West with three shutouts and in total saves with 235. She also holds a 1.30 goals-against average and a stellar 0.962 save percentage.
 
For the Bisons – Lauryn Keen leads the Bisons attack with two goals and five assists, while Sheridan Oswald and Natasha Kostenko are tied for the team lead in goals with three.
 
Between the pipes, Lauren Taraschuk sees the bulk of the action. In seven appearances, Taraschuk holds a 1.59 goals-against average and a 0.936 save percentage.

The Pronghorns will be on the road again next weekend and will face another stiff test, traveling to Edmonton to face the Alberta Pandas.
