The Pronghorns have seen extensive changes in the off season. Ilsa Wong returns as co-head coach with Jack Reddy following the departure of Fred Trinh, while on the roster the Pronghorns see 12 new players.
Key players to lead a relatively young squad will be third-year defender Raeleen Vanden Dungen and fourth-year midfielder Lindsay Amatto.
Vanden Dungen will move from outside flank into the primary central defender position this season and will be a vital part of maintaining the Pronghorns defensive structure, while Amatto tied for the team lead in goals with five last year and is the lone player returning that scored more than one goal last season.
Both of the Pronghorns opponents this weekend were also playoff teams last year. The Pandas finished first in the Prairie Division with a 10-2-2 record but were upset by the MacEwan Griffins in the quarter-finals.
Mount Royal finished one spot behind the Pronghorns in the Prairie division and lost to MacEwan in the play-in game on penalty kicks.
Head-to-head last year, the Pronghorns split the season series with the Cougars, with both teams winning on their home field. Versus the Pandas, the Pronghorns had a tie and a loss.
The Pronghorns will head out on the road next weekend, traveling to face the UBC Thunderbirds and Victoria Vikes.
