Pronghorns head to Saskatoon with key points on the line

LETHBRIDGE – With a sweep last weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team moved within striking distance of a playoff spot but will face a tough challenge on the road, facing the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
 
The Pronghorns will take on the Huskies Friday and Saturday night in the newly opened Merlis Belsher Place, puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. both nights. Catch all the action onwww.canadawest.tv.
 
A look at the teams
 
After a sweep of the Calgary Dinos last weekend, the Pronghorns (6-11-1-2) moved within two points of the Mount Royal Cougars for the final playoff spot in the conference. The Pronghorns will take on the Cougars during the final weekend of the season.
 
Still one of the lowest scoring teams in the conference with only 26 goals in 20 games, the Pronghorns struck for four goals Friday night for only the second time this season. Defensively the Pronghorns sit fifth in goals against with 44 goals allowed.
 
The Huskies (8-6-4-2) enter the weekend comfortably in fourth spot, six point ahead of the Regina Cougars but only three points behind UBC for third.
 
In their last action, the Huskies earned four points with a regulation win and a shootout loss in a home-and-home series with the Regina Cougars.
 
Saskatchewan sits ranked fifth in goals for with 34 and fourth in goals against at 46 goals allowed.
 
Earlier this season, the Huskies clipped the Pronghorns in both games by a single goal, winning 1-0 in overtime and 2-1 in regulation.
 
Players to watch
 
Sophomore Ali Borrow has had a solid start to the second semester with three points in four games, moving into a tie with Tricia Van Vaerenbergh for the team lead in points with eight.
 
Van Vaerenbergh scored her team leading sixth goal last Friday night in overtime to lift the Pronghorns past the Dinos.
 
For the Huskies, third-year forward Bailee Bourassa leads the offensive attack and sits sixth in Canada West scoring with five goals and nine assists.
 
Defender Leah Bohlken is tied for the Canada West lead in scoring among blue liners with 12 points. She also leads Canada West defensemen in goals with seven.
 
Up Next
 
The Pronghorns will return home for a pair of tough home weekends, hosting the two top teams in Canada West starting with the Manitoba Bisons next weekend.
