LETHBRIDGE – After a one year hiatus, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer teams returns to the Canada West playoffs and will travel to Saskatoon to face the UBC Thunderbirds in a single game play-in.
The Pronghorns and T-Birds will hit the field at the University of Saskatchewan at 1:00 pm, with winner advancing to face the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday in the Canada West quarter-final.
A Look at the Teams:
The Pronghorns (1-6-6) clinched the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division last Friday in Winnipeg with a 1-1 tie versus the Winnipeg Wesmen. The playoff appearance is also the Pronghorns third trip to the post-season in the last five years.
Two seasons ago, the Pronghorns lost a close 1-0 decision to the Fraser Valley Cascades, hosted by the Trinity Western Spartans.
Of the six losses the Pronghorns suffered this year, all but two were by two goals or less and some timely scoring could have drastically changed their season record. Offensively the Pronghorns tied for 14
th in scoring with nine goals.
Defensively, the Pronghorns were ranked ninth, allowing 22 goals against but nine of those goals came in two games. In the other 12 games, the Pronghorns allowed two or fewer goals in each game.
Jesse Dueck and Colette Mofakham tied for the team lead with three goals each.
The Thunderbirds (8-2-4) enter the post-season as the Pacific Division third seed and went 4-1-1 in their six conference games.
Statistically, the T-Birds are ranked eighth offensively, scoring 21 goals in 14 games, while allowing the third fewest goals against with nine, tying for the conference lead in shutouts with eight.
Alyssa Hunt was the T-Birds top offensive producer during the regular season with six goals and two assists.
During the regular season, the T-Birds visited Lethbridge in September and handed the Pronghorns a 4-0 defeat.
