LETHBRIDGE – Hitting the second half of the Canada West schedule, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team plays host to a pair of Saskatchewan schools this weekend, hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars this coming Saturday and Sunday.
Kick off on both Saturday and Sunday is slated for 12:00 p.m. and both games will also be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv, presented by CO-OP.
A look at the teams:
In their last action, the Pronghorns (0-4-3) earned a hard fought tie with the Prairie Division leading MacEwan Griffins, 1-1 and due to inclement weather a game versus the Alberta Pandas on Sunday was postponed. The Pronghorns are currently tied for the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division with the Winnipeg Wesmen.
Statistically, the 'Horns are ranked 13
th in Canada West in both goals for (4) and goals against (15), but nine of the 15 goals allowed have come in two game. The Pronghorns have allowed two or fewer goals in the other five games.
Jesse Dueck's goal on Sunday vaulted the Pronghorn into the tie with the Griffins and was her team leading second of the season.
The Huskies (4-2-2) come to Lethbridge after earning four points last weekend with a 6-1 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen and a 2-2 tie with the Manitoba Bisons.
Through eight games this season, the Huskies are one of the top offensive teams in Canada West, sitting third in the goals for category with 18 goals scored. Defensively, the Huskies are tied for seventh in the conference, allowing nine goals against.
Leading the way for the Huskies is Maya Gabruch, who sits second on the conference goal scoring list with six goals.
Coming off a weekend split, the Cougars (2-4-2) sit five points up on the Pronghorns for fifth place in the division. Last weekend the Cougars lost 2-1 to Manitoba, then went on to beat the Wesmen 4-1.
With 10 goals scored this season, the Cougars are ranked ninth offensively, but sit 14
th defensively, allowing 16 goals against in eight games.
The duo of Olivia Gables and Sydney Langen lead the Cougars attack with three goals each.
