LETHBRIDGE – Coming off a perfect opening to the Canada West schedule, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team heads out on the road, traveling to Regina to face the Regina Cougars for a pair of games.

The Pronghorns will square off with the Cougars Friday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm. Catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.

Last year, the Cougars won three of four games versus the Pronghorns, but the Pronghorns one win came in Regina, 1-0.

A look at the teams:

The Pronghorns (2-0-0-0) kicked off a new era in style last weekend, sweeping the 2017-18 U SPORTS Champion Manitoba Bisons. In the season opener, Mikaela Reay scored with less than five seconds remaining to give the Pronghorns a 4-3 and then completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in game two.

During the two game sweep, the Pronghorns killed off all 10 penalties the team took but they also did not score with the power play on eight opportunities.

Using a balanced attack, 12 Pronghorns registered at least one point last weekend and had seven different goal scorers. Kyra Greig sits atop the Pronghorns scoring list with a goal and two assists, while Kianna Dietz leads the team in goals with two.

For the Cougars (0-2-0-0) the opening weekend of the season did not go as planned, dropping both of their games in Calgary to the Calgary Dinos. The Dinos shutout the Cougars 2-0 in the first game and then handed them a 4-2 loss in the weekend finale.

Speciality teams did not play a significant role in the opening weekend for the Cougars as the two teams combined for only five power plays. The Cougars failed to score on three chances, while allowing one power play goal against.

Up next:

The Pronghorns return home next weekend to host the Saskatchewan Huskies Friday and Saturday night.
