LETHBRIDGE – Heading into the final stretch of 2019, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team hosts the UBC Thunderbirds in a clash for first place in the conference.
Tied for first in Canada West with 19 points, the Pronghorns and UBC hit the ice at Nicholas Sheran Arena, Friday night at 7:00 pm and Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.
A year ago, the Pronghorns and T-Birds split the season series with each team winning one game on the road.
A look at the teams
Coming off a fourth consecutive weekend split, the Pronghorns (6-3-0-1) have not been able to create any separation in the Canada West standings. Nearing the midway point of the schedule, only nine points separates first place from seventh place.
After finishing near the bottom in scoring a year ago, the Pronghorns have scored the second most goals in 10 games this season with 28 goals. Defensively, the 'Horns sit fifth, allowing 18 goals against.
Kyra Greig and Alli Borrow have led the Pronghorn attack this season and both have moved into the top 10 in Canada West scoring. Greig has four goals and four assists, while Borrow has eight assists this year.
Newcomer Madison Porter sits second in Canada West rookie scoring with four goals and two assists in 10 games.
After opening the season with three consecutive losses, the T-Birds (5-2-1-2) have been on a tear, winners of four straight and have registered at least one point in eight straight games.
Statistically, the T-Birds are ranked 5
th in in goals for (17) and seventh goals against but that stat is a bit misleading as UBC allowed 14 of the 22 goals against in two games against the Alberta Pandas to open the season.
Hannah Clayton-Carroll leads the T-Birds in scoring with four goals and two assist, while blueliner Mikayla Ogrodniczuk sits second with two goals and three assists.
