LETHBRIDGE – The University of Lethbridge Athletic department is thrilled to announce that Doug Paisley has been named the head coach of the women's hockey program. Paisley becomes the ninth head coach in the program's 23 year history.
"I am very thankful to the Executive Director, Ken McInnes, the Hiring Committee and the entire Pronghorn Athletics team for their time and consideration through the selection process and I am thrilled to coach at the U of L," said Paisley on being named the new head coach of the women's hockey program. "I truly believe it is great fit for both myself and the women's hockey program and I couldn't be happier to once again join the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Women's Hockey Team."
"The Pronghorns have always been a program that I have supported and tracked since coaching there in 2006 and I am very excited for the opportunity to come back and lead this team; I look forward getting started and working with the players."
Paisley, a long time hockey coach in Lethbridge, brings a wealth of experience at numerous levels in both the male and female game.
This past season, he was the head coach of the Lethbridge AAA Midget Hurricanes, who finished tied for first in the Chrysler Division of the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League (AMHL) and played in the final of the prestigious Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament held each Christmas in Calgary.
"We had a very strong pool of candidates show an interest in this position and we found someone with a great hockey pedigree and the right character to help our women's hockey program reach the level of excellence we aspire to," said Executive Director Ken McInnes. "Doug did an excellent job in the interview process and has proven himself to be a tremendous leader, great communicator and will be a great addition to Pronghorn Athletics and the University of Lethbridge."
"We are excited to welcome him back to the Pronghorn family."
As a coach in the female game, Paisley spent the 2005-06 season as an assistant coach with the Pronghorn program under former head coach Doug MacLeod.
He also spent three season with the Midget 'A' Female Lethbridge Barracudas as the associate coach and two years with the Major Bantam AAA Female Lethbridge Little Caesars as the head coach.
As well, Paisley has spent the last five years as the Lethbridge Hurricanes president of the Hurricanes Board of Directors.
Doug and Executive Director Ken McInnes will be available for media Monday, May 27 at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 2:00 PM.
