Lethbridge – As the Canada West men's soccer schedule moves into the second half of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of the University Community Stadium this weekend, hosting Pacific Division's Fraser Valley Cascades and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
The Pronghorns face the Cascades on Saturday and the WolfPack on Sunday, both games kick-off at 2:15 pm. Both games will be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv, presented by CO-OP.
A Look at the Teams
Coming off a tough west coast road trip, the Pronghorns (0-5-2) sit three points out of the final playoff spot with seven games to play. Last weekend, the Pronghorns suffered a pair of losses on the road, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Trinity Western Spartans and a 2-0 decision to two-time defending Canada West Champion UBC Thunderbirds.
At the midway point of the conference schedule, the Pronghorns sit 12
th offensively, only scoring five goals in seven games, while allowing the most goals against with 17.
Keeper Matt Vandervoort has started all seven games this season for the Pronghorns and sits second in the conference in overall saves with 44.
Sitting in a tie for fifth in the Pacific Division, the Cascades (2-3-3) come to Lethbridge after splitting their two games last weekend. After dropping a 3-2 decision to the Calgary Dinos at home, the Cascades rebounded to hand the Prairie Division leading Mount Royal Cougars a 1-0 loss.
In eight games this season, Fraser Valley has recorded nine goals for, while allowing 11 goals against to sit near the middle the pack.
Gurmaan Jhaj and Atle Koellmel lead the Cascades offensively with three and two goals respectively.
Sunday's opponent, the TRU WolfPack (1-1-4) enter the weekend on a streak of three consecutive ties, including draws with the Saskatchewan Huskies (2-2) and MacEwan Griffins (1-1) a weekend ago at home.
The WolfPack have scored 10 goals in five games but half of those goals came in from one game, handing the Victoria Vikes a 5-0 loss earlier this season. TRU has only allowed six goals against in six games.
Leading the way for the WolfPack is James Fraser, who leads the conference in goals with six.
