Pronghorns hit home pitch versus provincial foes

LETHBRIDGE – Returning to their home pitch, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team looks to rebounds from last week's road trip and hosts a pair of provincial rivals in the MacEwan Griffins and Alberta Pandas.
 
The Pronghorns will take on the Griffins Saturday afternoon and Pandas on Sunday. Kick-off is slated for 12:00pm both days and both games will also be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv, presented by CO-OP.
 
During the opening weekend of the season, the Pronghorns traveled to face both teams in Edmonton and earned back-to-back draws, 2-2 with the Pandas and 0-0 with MacEwan.
 
A look at the teams
 
Following the two ties, the Pronghorns (0-4-2) have dropped their last four games, including a 1-0 loss in Prince George to the UNBC Timberwolves and 5-0 to the Calgary Dinos last weekend on the road.
 
Through six conference games this season, the Pronghorns have scored three goals for, while allowing 14 goals against.
 
Raeleen Vanden Dungen, Tory Clements and Jesse Dueck have each scored once this season. Vanden Dungen leads the team in shots on goal with nine.
 
The Griffins (4-1-1) come to Lethbridge after suffering their first loss of the season in their last action. MacEwan dropped a 1-0 decision on their home field to the undefeated Trinity Wester Spartans. In the first game last weekend, MacEwan beat Fraser Valley 2-0.
 
Last Sunday's game also was the first time MacEwan has allowed a goal against in six contests. The Griffins have also scored 13 goals for thus far.
 
MacEwan keeper Emily Burns leads Canada West with five shutouts and has been in the net for all six games this season.
 
Offensively, the Griffins are led by Suekiana Choucair, who has scored three times, while Sunder West and Meagan Lemoine has each contributed two goals this season.
 
Sunday's opponent, the Alberta Pandas (3-1-2) enter the fourth weekend of conference action coming off a loss and a tie a week ago. The Pandas had won their previous three games before losing 3-0 to Trinity Western and playing to a 2-2 tie with Fraser Valley last week.
 
Through six games, the Pandas have scored eight times and have allowed seven goals against to sit in the middle of the pack in both categories.
 
Brenna Mattiello and Kiera Fujimoto lead the Pandas with two goals apiece.

The Pronghorns will remain at home next weekend, hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars.
