Box Score EDMONTON – The Lethbridge Pronghorns erased a two-goal deficit in the second half, as they earned a 2-2 draw with the host Alberta Pandas, Saturday afternoon at Foote Field.
The Pandas looked in complete control of the match midway through the second half, but allowed Lethbridge to tie the match with goals in the 67th and 89th minutes.
Brenna Mattiello and Kiera Fujimoto scored for Alberta, while
Jesse Dueck and
Tory Clements found the scoresheet for the visitors.
The Pandas opened the first have with a very fluid offence, creating numerous chances on Lethbridge keeper
Hanna Quinn. The second-year Pronghorn keeper made six saves in the first half, including a pair of diving stops on Pandas chances from inside the box. In total, Alberta fired 14 shots towards the Lethbridge net, compared to just four shots for the 'Horns.
The Pandas ball dominance in the opening 45 finally paid off, with Mattiello ripping a volley past Quinn in the 38th minute.
Lethbridge had one solid chance in the first, but
Colette Mofakham's chance at an open Alberta net went wide.
The Pandas added to their lead early in the second, as Fujimoto's shot from just inside the 18-yard box sailed over Quinn, off the post, and into the Lethbridge net.
Trailing 2-0, the Pronghorns were finally able to generate some possession and offence, leading to their goal in the 67th.
Emina Arima's free kick was knocked in by a driving Dueck, and past a diving Ashley Turner.
The Pronghorns continued to push for the equalizer late, and were able to stay within one thanks to another set of saves from Quinn. She finished the match with 15 saves, compared to three for Turner.
Lethbridge finally found the equalizer in the 90th, as Clements ripped in the through ball from
Kaleigh Harris past Turner.
Both Alberta teams will continue their seasons tomorrow, as Alberta hosts Mount Royal at Foote Field, while the Pronghorns visit the MacEwan Griffins in Edmonton.
