LETHBRIDGE – Kicking off the second semester of the conference schedule this weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team returns to action, welcoming the Regina Cougars to Lethbridge.
The Pronghorns and Cougars will hit the ice at Nicholas Sheran Arena Friday night at 7:00 pm and Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Both games will also be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv, presented by Co-op.
Earlier this season the Pronghorns and Cougars split the weekend series in Regina with the Pronghorns winning game one 5-2 before losing the next day 2-1.
A Look at the teams:
The Pronghorns (6-7-1-2) got off to a strong start to the season but cooled off late in 2019 and have only one of their last seven games. Sitting seven points ahead of Regina and Manitoba for the final playoff spot in the conference, this weekend's results will definitely have playoff implications.
The Pronghorns are also only seven points out of second place with 12 games to play.
Statistically, the Pronghorns sit third in goal scoring with 31 goals for but sit eighth in goals against with 40 allowed in 16 games.
Kyra Greig and Alli Borrow lead the Pronghorns in scoring with 10 points. Grieg has picked up four goals and six assists, while Borrow leads the Pronghorns with eight assists.
Senior goaltender Alicia Anderson played in 14 of 16 games during the first semester and sits with a 2.27 goals-against average and a 0.930 save percentage.
The Cougars (3-10-3-0) sit at the bottom of the standings but are still within striking distance for a playoff spot. Regina closed out 2019 with three straight losses including being swept by the Calgary Dinos in final games before the semester break.
Statistically, the Cougars sit sixth and seventh in goals for and against. The Cougars have scored 25 times, compared to 39 goals against in the first 16 games.
Fifth-year forward Jaycee Magwood leads the Cougars attack and sits seventh in Canada West scoring with eight goals and four assists.
In the crease, the Cougars have platooned the duo of Jen Kish and Morgan Baker but Kish has the superior numbers with a 16.1 goals-against average and a 0.929 save percentage. Baker sits 12
th in Canada West with a 3.31 goals-against average.
