LETHBRIDGE – Facing provincial rivals in a home-and-home series, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team will take on the Calgary Dinos to close out the 2019-20 Canada West season this weekend.
The two game home-and-home series starts Friday night in Lethbridge at Nicolas Sheran Arena at 7:00pm with the rematch Saturday night at the Father Bauer Arena, puck drop slated for 6:00 pm.
Friday night will also mark senior night where the women's hockey program will honour graduates Alicia Anderson, Danzelle Hettle, Katelyn Breitkreuz, Kriana Stocker, Mattie Apperson and Tricia Van Vaerenbergh.
The Pronghorns and Dinos split their series earlier this season, with the Pronghorns winning in a shootout and the Dinos opening that weekend set with a 5-1 win in Calgary.
A look at the teams
While the Pronghorns (8-14-2-2) mathematically could tie either the Mount Royal Cougars or UBC Thunderbirds for the final playoff spot with two regulation wins and two regulation losses by either team, both UBC and Mount Royal hold the tie breaker.
Statistically, the Pronghorns sit fourth in Canada West in goals for with 46 but sit eighth in goals against at 69.
Kyra Greig moved into the top 10 in Canada West scoring following a two goal performance last Friday, she sits ninth with 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists.
A mainstay in the Pronghorns crease the past five years, Alicia Anderson will graduate with her name littered throughout the Canada West record book. Entering the weekend, Anderson holds the Canada West all-time records for games played by a goaltender (119), minutes played (7,122:54), saves (3763) and sits second in career save percentage (0.934).
The Dinos (15-7-1-3) enter the weekend in a fight for playoff position and a first round bye in the Canada West playoffs. With two games remaining, the Dinos sit a single point ahead of the Saskatchewan Huskies for second place.
The Dinos have been solid at both ends of the ice this season, sitting second in goals for with 54 and third in goals against with 40.
A pair of Dinos lead the way offensively and sit in the top 10 in Canada West scoring. Elizabeth Lang leads the Dinos with 12 goals and nine assists, while Sara Craven has six goals and 13 assists in 26 games, setting career highs in all offensive categories.
