Box Score Calgary – Opening the season on the road, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women's soccer team dug themselves a first half hole that they could not recover from and dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Mount Royal Cougars.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the 26
th minute and doubled their lead less than 10 minute later to hold a 2-0 lead at the half time break. Sydney Danielewicz scored both of the Cougars first half goals and the Cougars held a 11-9 shot attempt advantage after 45 minutes.
Coming out of the break, the Pronghorns cut the Cougars lead in half only a minute into the second half. Second-year midfielder Lucy Mundy snuck a shot inside the bottom left corner to get the Pronghorns on the board.
Despite out shooting the Cougars 9-4 in the second half, that would be as close as the Pronghorns would get on this day as Danielewicz rounded out her first career hattrick in the 52
nd minute to propel the Cougars to their first win of the season.
The Pronghorns out shot the Cougars 18-15 in the match and forced the Cougars goalkeeper Katrina Geenlay to make 10 saves in the contest. In her Pronghorn debut, Bridie Harding made six saves in the loss.
Grace Taylor led the Pronghorns with eight shot attempts, including three on goal, while goal scorer Mundy also had three shots on goal in her 90 minutes of action.
The Pronghorns will continue north and take on the Alberta Pandas tomorrow afternoon to wrap up the weekend set. Kick-off is set for 12:00 pm, catch all the action on
