Â
A look at the teams
Â
Last Saturday, the Pronghorns (0-1-0) opened the Canada West season with a hard fought 1-0 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars. The Cougars were ranked second in the Canada West coaches' poll and outside of the Cougars goal off a set piece the Pronghorns played the Cougars even for 90 minutes.
Â
Returning for the first time in two years, senior goalkeeper Nolan French looked like he hadn't missed a beat, making seven saves on Saturday and kept his team within striking distance right until the final whistle.
Â
Midfielder Alasdair Coyle had a team high shots on goal in the Pronghorns loss on Saturday.
Â
Friday night marks the Saskatchewan Huskies (0-0) home opener and will be looking to build on a Canada West final four appearance in 2019.
Â
In 2019, the Huskies finished second in the Prairie Division with a 7-3-4 record but lost to the eventual Canada West Champion UBC Thunderbirds in the conference semi-final and then lost in the Bronze Medal game, 3-1 to the MRU Cougars.
Â
The graduation of Canada West First Team All-Star Jacob Powell leaves a void on the Huskies back line but fellow all-star Nikolas Baikas will lead the Huskie attack. In 2019 Baikas scored three times to tie for the team lead in that department. He also led the team with five points and 48 shots on goal.
