LETHBRIDGE – Following two consecutive weeks on the road, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's soccer team will wrap up the 2022 Canada West season this weekend at home, hosting the Manitoba Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen.

The Pronghorns will take on the Bisons on Saturday and the Wesmen on Sunday. Both games kick-off at 12:00 pm at the Community Sports Stadium and will be streamed live on www.canadawest.tv.

A look at the teams

The Pronghorns (0-10-2) enter the final weekend mired in a six game losing streak, including two tough losses last weekend in Edmonton to the Alberta Pandas and MacEwan Griffins.

This weekend marks the first meeting for the Pronghorns and the two Winnipeg schools since 2019. In the last match up with the Bisons, the Pronghorns lost 2-0 in Winnipeg. The Pronghorns have fared better against the Wesmen, compiling a 3-3-3 record all-time versus the Wesmen. The last two match-ups between the Pronghorns and Wesmen have ended in 1-1 draws.

This weekend also marks the final home game for four Pronghorns with Erin Gill, Kaleigh Harris and Rebecca McBride playing their final games. Grace Taylor, who has missed the entire season due to injury will also graduate and not return next season.

Hailey Slobodian has been a bright spot offensively this season, leading the team with four goals and three assists.
For the Bisons (5-6-1), the final weekend is about improving their playoff seeding. Currently seeded fifth in the Prairie Division, the Bisons could move up to as high as third depending on other results in the division.

Bianca Cavalcanti and Jessica Tsai have led the way offensively for the Bisons this season. Cavalcanti leads the team with eight goals and four assists, while Tsai has chipped in with four goals and three assists.

Like the Pronghorns, the Wesmen (1-10-1) will miss the post-season and are wrapping up the season this weekend. The Wesmen have lost four straight games but picked up a win over the Regina Cougars in late September in a game that was delayed from the opening weekend due to poor weather.

The duo of Jazmyn Castro and Emma Friesen lead the Wesmen in goals this season with two goals each.
