Box Score EDMONTON - Alberta first-year Jamie Toutant scored her first three Canada West goals, and McKayla Brault and Adrienne Poulin both scored two first-half goals to contribute in a Pandas offensive onslaught that ended 9-0 against the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday afternoon at Foote Field.
Â
Brault also chipped in an assist in a phenomenal performance that pushes the Pandas to 7-3-1, good for third in the Prairie Division. With the loss Lethbridge moves to 0-9-2 and still sit in last place in the Canada West.
Â
The nine goals is the most scored in a single game by a team in this Canada West campaign, and also places this Pandas squad in the annals of the programs history tying for second-most goals scored in a single game all-time.
Â
It was on from the start for Alberta, with the scoring opening just four minutes in when Poulin potted a goal from a phenomenal pass from fifth-year Brooke Lang, her first of two assists on the day. The Pandas kept the high press and momentum on the Horns, leading to a phenomenal stretch of three minutes in which Brault scored twice and Poulin added her second from just the ninth minute to the 11th.
Â
It was already 4-0 when second-year midfielder Wanda Czebreszuk shot past Horns keeper Erin Gill in the 20th minute on Erin Hope's second assist of the day. Toutant got her first career goal to close out the half, assisted by a beautiful feed from Cara Lang to send the Pandas up at half 6-0.
Â
The second half saw more of the same energy from the Pandas, including two goals from Toutant to complete her hat-trick. The third goal was a great individual effort, sprinting to beat two Pronghorn centrebacks to the ball and chipping it over the keeper Gill. The game would end 9-0 on an amazing 18 combined points from the Pandas eleven.
Â
The Pronghorns would muster a semblance of pressure in the half, but Alberta goalkeeper Autumn Wynn had no issues turning aside any chances. Her counterpart, Gill, had as good a day as you can have when facing 39 shots, turning aside 8 of 17 on target and was active virtually the entire game.
Â
The Pandas host the 5-4-1 Mount Royal Cougars Sunday afternoon, while the Pronghorns go across town to take on the Prairie Division leader MacEwan Griffins (8-2-0).
