8/24/2022 1:16:00 PM

LETHBRIDGE – Fresh off training camp and four non-conference games, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women's soccer team will launch into the 2022 Canada West season this Saturday, hosting the Mount Royal Cougars.

The Pronghorns and Cougars will kick-off the new season, Saturday at 2pm at the University Community Stadium. If you can't make it down to the stadium, catch all the action on www.canadawest.tv.

Last season, the Pronghorns and Cougars were even in three contests, each winning a game on their own home field, while the other game ended in a 2-2 tie.

A look at the teams

Coming off a 2-9-1 season a year ago, the Pronghorns look to take a step forward as the young squad continues to grow. The 2022 Pronghorn team only have one fifth-year senior and two players in their fourth year of eligibility.

With 19 players entering the season in their first three years of eligibility, the Pronghorns will continue to build towards moving up the standings. Seven true freshman and two transfers join the team this season and are headlined by transfer Lisa Popp (Wurzburg, Germany) and first-years Alexis Bradford (Abbotsford, BC) and Kiandra Boulter (Calgary, AB).

Leading the group of returning core is 2022 scoring leader Lucy Mundy, who accounted for four of the Pronghorns 11 goals a season ago.

The Cougars also missed the post season last year and finished just above the Pronghorns in the standings with a 3-7-2 record. Mount Royal will be led offensively but returning goal scoring leader Sydney Danielewicz, who scored six of the Cougars 11 goals last year.

In the annual Canada West coaches poll, the Pronghorns were ranked 15th in the conference, while the Cougars came in at 13th.
