Horns fall to Bear as the regular season closes in

LETHBRIDGE – In the final weekend of Canada West conference play, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns played with everything they had against the University of Alberta Golden bears, looking to keep their post season dream alive. The Pronghorns held the Golden Bears scoreless for 61 minutes Friday night at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium, until Golden Bear rookie, Frankroy Cain, capitalized on a second chance opportunity to secure Alberta's ninth victory of the season. Lethbridge battled for the equalizer but were unable to mount a comeback. With the loss to the Bears, the Horns' postseason is dependent on the regular season finale against the MacEwan Griffins.
 
BREAKDOWN
  • In the 10th minute, the Pronghorns earned their first scoring opportunity when Simon Rolfson's diving chance narrowly missed the Golden Bears' net.
  • Will Hughes' free kick in the 17th minute was hit high off the Golden Bears' crossbar, keeping the 'Horns scoreless.
  • Rodane Cato's impressive maneuver in the 28th minute couldn't result in a goal as Tom Denness made a crucial defensive play for the Horns to keep Lethbridge within one.
  • Golden Bears' Marcus Velado-Tsegaye almost scored a brace, drilling a shot down the middle at the Horns' net, but Pronghorns' goalkeeper, Armaan Thawer, came up with a crucial save.
  • In the 43rd minute, Kai Sakaguchi made a determined run at the net for the Horns, but his shot narrowly missed the target, leaving the match scoreless.
  • Pronghorns conceded a goal in the 61st minute, as the Alberta Golden Bears rookie, Frankroy Cain scored on a second chance opportunity, assisted by Rilind Idrizi.
  • Tom Denness stopped the Pronghorns from going down by two, as Marcus Velado-Tsegaye worked his way deep into Horns' territory but was unable to get the shot off.
  • The Pronghorns fought to find the equalizer in the game, battling for every ball but after 90-minutes the Bears would secure the victory.
