Horns Women's Soccer kicks off 2023-2024 Season at home

8/21/2023 12:20:00 PM

LETHBRIDGE – First year head coach, Thiago Bastos will lead Pronghorn Women's Soccer in their first Canada West action for the 2023-24 Season at home against Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday, August 26 and Manitoba Bisons on Sunday, August 27. The games kick off at 12 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.

The Horns return to face the Wesmen following a 6-1 victory in their final regular season match of 2022. In their last meeting against Manitoba, the Horns came up just short, losing 1-0 to the Bisons at home. Pronghorn Women's Soccer is hopeful heading into the 2023-24 Season, as the team looks to improve on their seventh-place finish in the Canada West Prairie Division.

Key additions for the Horns this season include first year athletes, Myah Stemmann and Nicola Hutton, both heading down from Calgary, AB. In goal, the Pronghorns are excited to welcome back international Bridie Harding, who led the Canada West Conference in saves last season with 79 saves.

The Pronghorns also continue to look for the leadership of third year striker, Hailey Slobodian. Slobodian led the Horns in 2022 with 8 goals and 3 assists on the season. Slobodian finished the season tied for sixth in Canada West for goals scored. "Hailey's strength comes from her ability to break down defenses, and when the moment presents itself, finish plays at an elite level," said Bastos.

Pronghorn Women's Soccer is back at home the following weekend, as they take on the Calgary Dinos on Saturday, September 2 at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
