LETHBRIDGE – Pronghorn Men's Soccer kicks off the 2023-24 Canada West regular season on the road against MacEwan Griffins on Friday, August 25, followed by an afternoon bout against the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday, August 26.
In his second campaign, Head Coach Davin Haigh returns to lead the Horns, garnered by a slew of incoming talent. Key additions for the Horns include first years Nicholas Bilodeau from Parkland County, AB and Ziad El Hasumi from Calgary, AB, along with Thompson Rivers University transfer, Cole Rosenlund.
In 2022, Lethbridge went 2-10-2 despite being competitive in several close games that saw the Horns come up just short, as well as earning a tie against Canada West leader, Mount Royal late in the season. Both Pronghorn wins last season came from Prairie Division rival, the Calgary Dinos.
In their last meetings, MacEwan earned two victories over Lethbridge, defeating the Horns by one goal in both matches. Alberta, who finished second in the Canada West Prairie Division defeated the Horns both times the teams faced each other.
Along with the signing of key recruits, the Horns roster looks to the leadership of fifth year returner, Alasdair Coyle in the midfield, as well as defensive efforts of fourth year, Damon Field. "Damon has a strong ability both in possession and out of possession. He gives us a lot of control out of the back in buildup. His physical and technical ability allow us to be more confident with and without the ball," said Haigh
Pronghorns began the preseason with two exhibition wins on the road in Montana, and followed that up with two victories over Lakeland College and Lethbridge College They return to play at home at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium on Friday, September 1 against top ranked Mount Royal Cougars and Sunday, September 3 against Calgary Dinos.
