POST GAME
LETHBRIDGE – Spartans shut the door on the Pronghorns, dominating possession for most of the game to leave the Horns shut out at home. Horns Soccer hosted the second ranked, TWU Spartans, in the fourth week of Canada West conference play at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
BREAKDOWN
- The visiting, TWU Spartans controlled much of the play throughout the first 20 minutes of play, but couldn't beat Horns goalkeeper, Bridie Harding, in the opening sequences Sunday afternoon.
- In the 20th minute of play a pass from Alexis Bradford was a bit long for the sprinting Nicola Hutton, who chased down the ball and shot it at the Spartans' crossbar.
- A chance for the Spartans to take the lead came in at the 43rd minute of play, as Sophie Crowther worked around the Pronghorns defenders for a shot on net, but the fifth-year goalkeeper made the save.
- In first half stoppage time, the Spartans made it 1-0, as Erin Stewart connected off an assist from Mya Bajpai to put one past Harding.
- The Spartans continued to dictate the pace of play throughout the second half, as the Spartans defence kept the Horns from finding their offense in their zone.
- The Spartans scored to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute of play, as Sierra Halldorson capitalized on a penalty kick beating Bridie Harding to the far side of the net.
