LETHBRIDGE - Pronghorns Women's Soccer is stepping into the 2024-25 Season with a fresh sense of purpose. After a season of growth under head coach Thiago Bastos, now entering his second year, the team is poised for a rebuild; driven by a mix of seasoned returners and a promising wave of new recruits, including some international talent.
Â
Bastos sees the strength of the team in its unity. "We have a solid returning group, with some players in their final year who bring valuable experience and a few second-year players eager to solidify their roles. Each of them contributes something that makes us unique," he says. The team's returning core is ready to lead and their experience will be pivotal as the Pronghorns seek to develop their identity on the pitch.
Â
One of the most exciting aspects of this season is the arrival of a dynamic group of new Pronghorns. "We have a special group coming in, with a couple of international athletes, transfers and local talent from Alberta," Bastos explains. "It's a young group, but they bring the grit and determination necessary for us to succeed."
Â
As the season opener approaches, the Pronghorns are eager to get started. "We're looking forward to competing," Bastos shares. "This is a great group of athletes – now it's about gaining the necessary experience, to becoming a playoff contender."
Â
The Pronghorns kick off the season with two home games, starting against the University of Manitoba Bisons on Saturday, September 7, as part of the Horns Triple Header at 12 p.m. Then the team will be back on the field on Sunday, September 8 at 2:15 p.m. to take on the Winnipeg Wesmen.
