Soccer: Pronghorns Bow Out in Shootout Thriller
The men's soccer team's Canada West postseason run came to a heartbreaking close Friday in Calgary, falling to the University of Victoria Vikes in a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of intense play ended 1–1.
Lethbridge came out strong, pressing early and earning multiple corners before Kai Sakaguchi opened the scoring in the 26th minute off a setup from Will Hughes. The Vikes equalized midway through the second half through Aiden Grew, and both sides traded chances the rest of the way. Goalkeeper Tegan Romaine was outstanding, making several key stops to keep the Horns in contention.
Neither team could break the deadlock through extra time, sending the match to penalties. Owen Shum stepped into goal for the shootout, but the Vikes converted four straight while Victoria keeper Callum Weir denied Lethbridge's opening attempts. Ben Gingrass scored the lone Horns penalty, but it wasn't enough as Victoria advanced to the semifinals, ending a promising Pronghorns campaign.
Women's Basketball: Competitive Start Followed by Tough Setback
The Pronghorns women's basketball team opened its season with a hard-fought 80–70 loss to the Calgary Dinos on Friday. Rookie Halle Alleman made an immediate impact with a pair of three-pointers, while veterans Courtney McKee and Abby Stonehocker provided steady scoring and leadership. The teams traded leads throughout before Calgary closed strong behind Milica Gajic and Christine Geraldo.
In Saturday's rematch, the Dinos controlled the tempo in an 83–52 victory. Despite early resilience from Kamryn Deklerk and Piper Dobbelsteyn, Calgary's perimeter shooting proved decisive as they built a 20-point halftime lead. McKee and Rae Wedman added late offence for Lethbridge, but the Dinos' depth secured the sweep.
Men's Basketball: Narrow Losses in Season-Opening Battles
The Pronghorns men's basketball team opened its Canada West campaign with back-to-back home thrillers against Calgary. On Friday, the Horns fell 92–87 in a game that featured multiple lead changes and strong performances from Kymani Pollard and Brady Baines. Pollard led the charge with clutch shooting from long range, while Bryce Solis provided key baskets down the stretch. A late and-one by Calgary's Dre Francis and free throws from Daniels Baumanis sealed the narrow Dinos win.
Saturday's rematch was just as competitive, with the Pronghorns again controlling much of the contest before a late Calgary comeback resulted in an 83–80 loss. Pollard continued his stellar form, draining multiple threes, while Solis and Lu Dalil added energy on both ends. First-year Dino Mrigendra Dhaliwal powered the visitors' fourth-quarter surge, scoring repeatedly in the paint and from beyond the arc to edge the Horns in the final minute.
Despite the losses, Lethbridge showed depth and poise across the lineup, giving fans plenty to be optimistic about as the group builds early-season chemistry.

With encouraging performances across the board and strong home support behind them, the Horns aim to convert their early momentum into wins as the season progresses.
