Box Score 4 The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns programs showcased resilience and strong performances across multiple sports this past weekend, highlighted by a comeback win from women's rugby, a men's soccer shutout victory, and a tightly contested home series from women's soccer. The weekend reflected the Horns' growing cohesion and determination as fall competition nears its final stretch.
Men's Soccer
The Pronghorns men's soccer team earned a decisive 3–0 win over the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday before battling to a hard-fought 1–1 draw against the Calgary Dinos on Sunday.
In Saturday's match at Mount Royal, the Pronghorns capitalized early on set pieces. Karim Bey opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 20th minute, followed by a rebound goal from Kai Sakaguchi just before halftime. Midfielder Ben Gingras added insurance midway through the second half with a well-placed strike off a corner, sealing the clean sheet for Lethbridge. Despite multiple cards issued throughout the contest, the Horns maintained composure and control en route to the 3–0 victory.
The following day in Calgary, the Pronghorns again struck first when Will Hughes curled a free kick over the wall to put Lethbridge ahead in the fifth minute. The Dinos equalized in the 36th minute on a header from Milan Ponjevic, and while Calgary pressed for a winner, Lethbridge's back line held strong under sustained pressure. The result moved the Pronghorns to 4-3-4 on the season as they prepare to visit the Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend.
Women's Soccer
The Pronghorns women's soccer team hosted the MacEwan Griffins for a two-game home series at Community Stadium, showing notable defensive resilience despite a pair of narrow defeats.
On Saturday, goalkeeper Kate Prince turned aside 15 shots in a standout performance as the Horns fell 1–0 to MacEwan. The Griffins broke through just before halftime, and while Lethbridge pressed for an equalizer through efforts from Chiara Duenser, Grace Klassen, and Julia Reale, the visitors held firm to preserve the shutout.
Sunday's rematch saw Lethbridge take the lead late in the first half, when defender Lisa Popp converted a setup from Kiandra Boulter to make it 1–0. Prince continued her strong play with 11 saves, but MacEwan mounted a late comeback, scoring twice in the final eight minutes for a 2–1 win. Chloe Wilson anchored the midfield defensively, while Popp's goal marked her second of the campaign. The Pronghorns will regroup over the Thanksgiving break before resuming play against the Manitoba Bisons.
Women's Rugby
The Pronghorns women's rugby team earned one of their most dramatic victories of the season, edging the Alberta Pandas 22–19 in front of a home crowd on Saturday night.
After falling behind 7–0 midway through the first half, Jorja Salmon scored her first of two tries to get Lethbridge on the board. Alberta regained control early in the second half, extending their lead to 19–10, but the Horns mounted an inspired comeback. Ashlee Izekor's converted try pulled Lethbridge within two before Millie Teskey crossed the line in the 72nd minute to complete the turnaround and seal the win. The victory improves Lethbridge's record to 3-2-1 heading into their regular-season finale against Calgary next weekend.
