LETHBRIDGE – Pronghorn Athletics is excited to announce the appointment of Chris McKaig as the new Head Coach for the University of Lethbridge Men's Soccer Program. A coach with over 12 years of experience at the university and professional levels, McKaig brings a wealth of knowledge, a passion for player development and a deep commitment to building a unified, successful team.
McKaig's impressive coaching journey includes roles as the Lead Assistant Coach for the University of Calgary Dinos, where his strategic contributions led to dramatic improvements in defensive and set-piece performance. He has also held coaching positions with Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the University of Northern British Columbia, as well as being the Head Coach for Team Alberta at the 2019 Canada Summer Games, where his team claimed the gold medal.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work in a program that prioritizes team spirit and togetherness," said McKaig. "This was a big part of my decision to join the Pronghorns. I'm looking forward to getting to know the players, the staff and building on the great work already in place. We're going to play an aggressive, fast-paced game that reflects the unity and family spirit of our team."
"I believe in creating a team that works for each other, celebrates individual successes as a collective and prioritizes the success of the team through hard work and commitment. We will build a family spirit in Lethbridge and ensure that every player is given the tools to reach their fullest potential."
"Lethbridge is a community that's always been close to me in my coaching journey and I'm excited to give back. I know the community will be proud of their team and I look forward to showing them players who will push themselves to the limits of their abilities. Together, we'll build a program that everyone can be proud of."
"Chris brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. His leadership, commitment to player development and ability to create a strong team culture align perfectly with our vision for Pronghorn Men's Soccer. We're confident that under Chris's guidance, our program will continue to grow and succeed within Canada West," said Spencer Pommells, Athletic Director for Pronghorn Athletics.
"What excites me most about Chris's leadership is his focus on the players' development both on and off the field. His values align perfectly with the ethos we strive for at the University of Lethbridge and I'm excited to see how he leads this program to new heights."
McKaig's journey in coaching, combined with his dedication to fostering a positive, hard-working environment, makes him a strong fit to lead the Pronghorns as they continue to strive for excellence within Canada West.
