Pronghorns Triple Header Weekend Recap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 4 The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns hosted their annual Triple Header this weekend, generating a massive turnout of Fans who came to support the event. The weekend consisted of 3 back to back games on Saturday, with the women's soccer team playing against the University of Regina Cougars, the men hosting the University of Victoria Vikes, and the women's rugby team capping the night off against the University of Calgary Dinos. On Sunday, the women's soccer team faced off against the Cougars for the second game of the weekend, while the men played the undefeated UBC Thunderbirds.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Regina Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the first half as forward Kirsten Koellmel found the net in the 11th minute to give Regina a 1-0 lead. Koellmel added her second of the match in the 61st minute, securing the brace and sealing the result for the visitors.

Lethbridge created several opportunities throughout the match, recording 10 total shots with six on target. Kiandra Boulter, Grace Klassen and Lainey Fischer each managed chances on goal, but Regina goalkeeper Peyton Magnuson stood tall, making six saves to preserve the clean sheet.

On the defensive end, Pronghorns goalkeeper Kate Prince kept her side within reach, turning away nine Cougar shots across both halves. Despite the effort, Regina's consistent attack, including 17 total attempts and 11 on target, proved the difference.

With the result, Regina improves to 2-4-1 on the season, while Lethbridge drops to 0-6-1.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns dropped a 4–1 decision to the Regina Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Community Stadium.

Regina struck twice in the opening half to grab early control, then added two more goals after halftime to extend their lead. The Cougars had a balanced attack with four different goal scorers: Kirsten Koellmel, Peyton Enns, Natalia McCullough, and Savana Caligiuri each found the back of the net.

The Pronghorns continued to push forward and were rewarded in the second half when Ophelia Lacroix scored her first goal of the season to cut into the deficit. Lethbridge also created chances with eight total shots, but the Regina defense and goalkeeper Peyton Magnuson held firm with a pair of saves.

In goal for Lethbridge, Kate Prince made five stops while facing nine shots on target.

The Pronghorns will look to bounce back next weekend as they continue Canada West conference play against the Mount Royal University Cougars on the road.

MSOC: LET (1) VIC (3)
The University of Victoria Vikes used a strong second half to secure a 3–1 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday afternoon at the Community Sports Stadium.

Victoria opened the scoring in the first half through Alex Moody. After the break, the Pronghorns closed the gap after Taiyo Okawa snuck one past the Vikes Callum Weir to make it 1-1. Shortly after, the Vikes extended their lead with goals from Matthew Pearse and Yassin Guitouni to make it 3–0. Lethbridge continued to battle but was unsuccessful.

The Vikes held a 16–12 edge in total shots and managed seven shots on goal compared to five from the Pronghorns. Lethbridge goalkeeper Tegan Romaine made four saves, while Victoria's Callum Weir also recorded four stops.

The result moves Victoria to 6-0-2 on the season, while Lethbridge sits at 2-2-3.

MSOC: LET (2) UBC (4)
The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns came out strong at Community Stadium on Sunday, but visiting UBC Thunderbirds extended its unbeaten Canada West season with a 4–2 victory.

Ben Gingras opened the scoring for the Pronghorns in the 17th minute, giving the home side early momentum. UBC responded with three unanswered goals before halftime, as Markus Rukavina (25'), Henri Godbout (38'), and Joven Mann (44') put the Thunderbirds ahead 3–1 at the break.

In the second half, UBC sealed the match in the closing minutes, with Oliver Herbert's late goal in the 88th minute, and the Pronghorns Taiyo Okawa pulled one back for Lethbridge in the 90th minute to make it the 4-2 final.

Catch the men's team back at home next weekend on Sunday September 28 at 2:15 p.m. against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. 

WRUG: LET (22) CGY (19)
The Lethbridge Pronghorns defeated the Calgary Dinos 22-19 at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium on September 20. The Horns showed their strength in the 1st half, scoring 3 trys (Charli Helland, Seq'hiya Simmons and Jorja Salmon) and converting 1 (Kayleigh Noel) taking a commanding first-half lead with the score 17-0. While the Dinos fought hard, they were unable to put points on the board.

The Pronghorns entered half-time determined to keep throwing everything they had at the Dinos in the second half, but the Dinos came out stronger, earning 2 converted trys early in the second half (McEachern-Shields, Okeke).

With fresh legs off the bench the Horns brought the energy to the field resulting in back and forth play that was missing in the first half. Pronghorns earned another try from Millie Teskey, but the Dinos capped off an intense game with a converted score of their own (Plant). The second half proved in favour of the Dinos with 19-5 scoring, but the early deficit was too much to overcome, and the Pronghorns ended with their first at home win in a 22–19 final.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns will head to Vancouver next week to face of against the UBC Thunderbirds. Catch all the action live on Canada West TV.
