LETHBRIDGE - The Pronghorns capped a perfect Horns Triple Header with a 36-22 victory over the Alberta Pandas on Saturday night at Community Stadium, earning their first home win of the season and completing a three-win night for Lethbridge.
Playing in front of a packed crowd at the University of Lethbridge, the Pronghorns came out with early pressure and opened the scoring when Charli Helland found Dori Miller, who powered her way across the line to give the Horns a 5-0 lead.
Alberta answered in the ninth minute, with Stella Henry finding the try line after the Pandas had spent several minutes knocking on the door. Kate Alcock added the conversion to put Alberta ahead 7-5.
The Horns responded with a strong push of their own, with Emily Stewart finding Ashley Izekor before Ann Laure-Germain finished the drive with a try to put Lethbridge back in front. The conversion attempt was wide, leaving the Horns with a 10-7 lead.
Alberta would level the score at 10-10 with a penalty goal from Alcock, but the Horns quickly regained the advantage. Millie Teskey broke through for her first try of the night, putting Lethbridge ahead 15-10.
With momentum building, the Pronghorns continued to find space through their attack. Jayda Morrison broke through the Alberta defence in the 34th minute and raced in for the Horns' fourth try. Morrison added the conversion herself to give Lethbridge a 22-10 advantage.
The Pandas responded before the break, with Kaitlin Tetteh-Wayoe crossing the line to cut the deficit to seven. Alcock's conversion attempt hit the uprights, sending the teams into halftime with the Horns leading 22-15.
Lethbridge opened the second half with another strong attacking sequence, and Izekor finished it off with her second try of the season. Morrison added the conversion to extend the Horns' lead to 29-15.
Alberta refused to go away, with Henry scoring her second try of the night in the 47th minute. Alcock converted once again to make it 29-22.
The Pronghorns continued to pressure the Pandas deep in their zone, and a powerful drive from Lucy Finnson set up Seq'hiya Simmons, who crossed the line in the 58th minute for her first try of the game. Morrison's conversion made it 36-22.
The Horns defence held firm through the final stretch, closing out the 36-22 victory and sending the Community Stadium crowd home with plenty to celebrate.
The win capped a memorable Horns Triple Header, with Lethbridge earning three victories across women's soccer, men's soccer and women's rugby on the night.
