Female Athlete of the Week:

Nikki Furukawa – Women’s Soccer

With her team’s playoff aspirations hanging in the balance, fourth-year forward Nikki Furukawa stepped up last Saturday to lead the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s soccer to team to an upset of the CIS fourth ranked and previously undefeated Calgary Dinos.

Furukawa scored twice in the second half to lead the ‘Horns to a 3-1 over the Calgary Dinos and lift the ‘Horns back into a tie for the final playoff spots in the division. In Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the Dinos, Furukawa lead the team with three shots but could not recreate the magic the ‘Horns had on Saturday.

On the season, Furukawa has scored six of the ‘Horns 12 goals and sits tied for fifth in Canada West on the goals list.

Entering the final two weeks of the regular season, the ‘Horns are tied with Regina Cougars and Winnipeg Wesmen for the final two playoff spots. The ‘Horns will host the Mount Royal Cougars and MacEwan Griffins this weekend in their final home games of the regular season.
