Lethbridge, AB – The Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 18, 2022
Female Athlete of the Week:
Hailey Slobodian – Women’s Soccer
Second-year striker Hailey Slobodian had a hand in all three Pronghorn goals this past weekend as the Pronghorn women’s soccer team picked up their first point of the season.
During Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the visiting UBCO Heat, the East Paul, Manitoba product scored the lone goal, while also registering two shots on goal.
In Sunday’s match up with the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, Slobodian and the Pronghorns were trailing 3-0 before attempting a comeback. She got the Pronghorns on the board in the 84th minute and then set up a goal five minute later to cut the deficit to only one, however the Pronghorns were not able to complete the comeback.
Slobodian leads the Pronghorns in scoring thus far with three goals and three assists.
The Pronghorn women’s soccer team will be on home field again this coming weekend, hosting the MacEwan Griffins and Alberta Pandas.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Karim Bey – Men’s Soccer
For the second time in four weeks, midfielder Karim Bey has been named the Pronghorn male athlete of the week.
The Calgary product is the link in the middle of the field and is a workhorse for the Pronghorn men’s soccer team. His awareness in transitional moments of the game to be able to recover the ball or progress the attack up the field has been key for the Pronghorns thus far.
His work rate on both sides of the ball continues to standout on the pitch, despite the Pronghorns dropping both games at home last week.
Bey is tied for the team lead in assists with two and has registered eight shot attempts this season.
Bey and the Pronghorns men’s soccer team heads out on the road this weekend, traveling to B.C. to face the Victoria Vikes and UBCO Heat.
