Lethbridge – The Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s soccer team (4-4-5 CW) heads out on the road for the final weekend of the conference schedule traveling to Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies (5-5-3 CW) in control of their own fate.
The ‘Horns trail the Huskies by a single point for the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division and with a win and a tie, the ‘Horns would make their first post-season appearance since 2000.
With one more victory, the ‘Horns would also set a new program record for wins in a season with five. The ‘Horns recorded four wins during the 1986 season when the conference only played a 10-game schedule. The 17 points the ‘Horns have earned this season is already a program’s best.
With a win and a tie against the division leading Alberta Golden Bears last weekend, the ‘Horns played themselves back into the playoff picture, gaining three points on the Huskies, who were only able to muster a single point versus the Calgary Dinos.
Since the opening weekend of the season, where the ‘Horns surrendered 10 goals in two games, they have been one of the stingiest defenses in the conference, only allowing seven goals in their last 11 games.
Keeper Tyler Boast has been one of the key reasons for the ‘Horns success this season, he leads the conference in shutouts with six. He also ranks second in saves with 74 and fifth in goals-against-average at 1.18.
The 2012 season has been the tale of two seasons for the Saskatchewan Huskies; the Huskies opened the season undefeated in five games going 4-0-1 but are now marred in an eight-game winless streak. During the recent slide the Huskies have earned three ties but have really struggled offensively. The Huskies have been shutout four times and only scored more than one goal once.
Kick-off for both Saturday and Sunday’s games in Saskatoon are scheduled for 2:15 pm.
