Lethbridge, AB – While the Lethbridge Pronghorns continued a program best points in consecutive games streak with a 0-0 tie with the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen, the ‘Horns will walk away feeling they left some points on the table.
Wesmen keeper Taylor Farago was the difference in Winnipeg earning the draw, making 12 saves on the day, many of which were the difficult variety. Tyler Boast finished the day with only three saves for the ‘Horns to earn his fourth clean sheet of the season.
The ‘Horns have now earned points in six consecutive games and run their record to 3-2-3 on the season, while the Wesmen’s record moves to 0-7-2.
Despite a scoreless opening half, the ‘Horns dictated the pace of the game and held the majority of the ball possession. Shot attempts in the opening half heavily favored the ‘Horns 13-1 and if not for some exceptional saves from Farago the ‘Horns would have carried a lead at the half. Farago made seven saves in the first 45 minutes.
The ‘Horns best chance of the half came off a set piece from Morgan Brownjohn. His attempt from 24-yards out deflected off the wall and caught Farago flat footed but hit the far left post.
Horns newcomer Domenic Rigaux also had a great chance to break the scoreless draw in the 29th minute, dribbling through four Wesmen defenders and creating a clean line to the net, but Farago turned him away with a nice diving stop.
The second half saw much of the same with the ‘Horns leading in virtually every category except the one that counts, the scoreboard. Shots were closer in the second half with the ‘Horns holding a 9-4 advantage, but the Wesmen did create two corners in the half, after none in the opening 45 minutes.
Brownjohn once again created the most dangerous chance in the second half and again his set piece would find the woodwork, hitting the crossbar. But this time ‘Horns forward Justin Marin found himself all alone in front but his header just went wide.
These same two teams face-off tomorrow afternoon at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium to conclude the weekend, kick-off is set for 2pm.
